Our College provides for a wide variety of student learning needs. It has programs and procedures in place to identify and assist both gifted and talented students and students who have special needs. These programs and procedures provide students with the challenges and reassurances necessary to develop their individual capabilities and abilities to reach their full potential.

Specialist staff members are available to provide educational programs to meet the special needs of students in the following areas:

  

ESL Support:

English as a Second Language teachers assist students whose first language is not English.

Literacy and Numeracy Programs:

The College is committed to a systematic approach to teaching Literacy and Numeracy across all Key Learning Areas (KLAs). Literacy and Numeracy achievements are monitored and students' progress is tracked using a variety of means. These include school assessment, reporting and state wide testing. 

Gifted and Talented

Our College recognises its responsibility to offer gifted and talented students appropriate opportunities, stimulation and experiences necessary to develop their potential and satisfy their learning needs. Specific approaches for educating gifted and talented students are:

  • variety of teaching strategies
  • flexible progression
  • enrichment and acceleration
  • extension classes
  • State and National Competitions
  • co-curricular activities
  • Principal's KLA Prizes.
  

Sensory Impairment Program

Students with hearing and vision impairments are assisted by qualified staff within the regular classroom program.

Special Education

College staff work with parents throughout a students schooling to develop a relevant curriculum and individual adjustment plan for students with learning difficulties. The model for meeting a students needs is a combination of curriculum resourcing and modification and limited withdrawal from classes.

Vocational Guidance and Careers

Vocational guidance and careers counselling for career paths, workplace practices and further education are available to all students. Vocational Education courses are provided as part of the Senior Study program. Students have access to in-school part-time traineeships as well as TAFE/School Vocational Education subjects.
